Weruva
Cat Cuisine
Using only Fit
for Human Consumption Muscle Meat means natural taste, texture, aroma and
appearance.
Being obligate
carnivores and desert animals by origin that do not naturally drink lots of
water, cats should be fed a diet consisting of high quality protein, high
moisture content and minimal to no carbohydrates. Weruva, whether it is a
chicken, beef or fish based formula, starts by flaking the fleshy, meaty
cuts off the bone. Then these ingredients are
hand placed
into cans for your
pets, thereby allowing you to see the cuts they use and how they process them.
These fit for
human consumption, fleshy cuts also contain natural moisture levels, thereby
allowing the formulas to contain high moisture content without ever sacrificing
protein content or adding excess water. Most of the Weruva formulas contain only
1 to 2% carbohydrates, with a few approaching 3% where a touch of rice is added.
By using
fleshy and meaty cuts, there is no need to add liver or whitefish to boost
palatability. These cuts taste great. It's a difference you will see and smell
and the difference your cat will feel and taste.

The
Weruva Philosophy in the Real World: Chicken de-mystified
with Weruva Standards of
The Highest Quality and Safety
Weruva has
done what they can to avoid the chicken mystery by giving your pets the
highest quality they could find and by making the food the safest way they
can. While many other manufacturers (of course none of their products are
sold here at LizzysHealthyPetFood.com) are just claiming it and show you
beautiful pictures of luscious chicken, Weruva does indeed use fresh cuts of
antibiotic and hormone free, free range, boneless, skinless chicken breast
you would find on shelves of the finest of supermarkets, they same cuts
you'd put on the grill for you and your family.
Weruva's
owners, being pet owners themselves, just feel that they owe it to concerned
pet parents to identify the precise cuts of meat being used and to identify
how they make it. Otherwise, so they say, we would be just serving your
pets chicken in a can, or better make that mystery chicken.
AAFCO
regulators have given chicken the broadest of broad definitions. They define
chicken as the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without
accompanying bone. Any combination? As manufacturers are required neither
to declare a flesh to bone ratio nor to identify the cuts of chicken they
use, and as manufacturers blend their formulas making it impossible to tell
what exactly is in the can, it certainly leaves a lot of room to play, and
it begs for the question,
what really is chicken in pet food?
"Cats and Dogs just love it
Weruva's getting a rep for enticing finicky felines with taste standards so
high they'd sooner fast than eat less than the best.

Looking
for human grade? Get Weruva grade! People Food for Pets
Confused by what actually makes a pet food human grade, premium,
super premium or gourmet? Don't
worry, you are not the only one. So are we and the people at Weruva. AAFCO
(American Association of Feed Control Officials), though working closely with
the FDA to determine pet food safety, has not defined these terms. Therefore
Weruva decided to describe its food elegant and sumptuous. But instead of adding
to everybody's confusion, the company also provides a factual lowdown on their
ingredients and processes.
Chicken:
Weruva uses only antibiotic free, hormone free, free range boneless, skinless
and white chicken meat. The
beef used by Weruva is select cuts of antibiotic and hormone free, free range
beef. Weruva
formulas are produced in a human food facility using many of the same
ingredients and processes that are used in products for people around the world.
The base proteins of chicken, beef and fish include only top quality muscle
meat, such as white breast chicken meat, whole meat tuna loins and select cuts
of beef, all flaked off the bone. Other ingredients, such as fresh vegetables
and value added toppers (unique items such as grilled skipjack, grilled tilapia,
grilled red big eye, calamari and shirasu) are hand placed into the cans. This
delicate process allows for the ingredients to maintain their natural and
recognizable texture, which then in turn allows the pet owner to see and
understand the ingredients listed on the can labels. Basically, it is all by the
motto: What you see is what you get! or, as Weruva calls it, no more human
grade mystery mush.

Weruva, is a
Natick, MA based manufacturer of luxurious, natural
pet food inspired by and named after three rescued cats, Webster,
Rudi and
Vanessa. Owned by David and Stacie Forman, the company has made it it's mission
to search for The best cat food under the sun. While gathering the best
ingredients from around the world, and creating just such a food, they claim,
their search never seems to end.
Weruva enjoys its
relationship with its family owned sister company founded in the 80's as an
exclusive North American human food manufacturer. Just like dozens of other pet
food manufacturers they utilize a common factory to produce their foods.
The processes
implemented at Weruva have a global stamp of approval for human consumption
standards as governmental regulatory bodies and third party auditors from around
the world regularly inspect and approve their facilities on human consumption
standards. Suppliers are audited to ensure the safety of all ingredients. Weruva
does not source any ingredients from China and does
not use wheat gluten, corn gluten or rice protein concentrate in their formulas.
The New York Post
once declared the Weruva factory the best seafood producer in Thailand. Pet
food is produced in a state of the art human food facility in Thailand using
the precise quality raw materials that are used to produce human food.
Production utilizes the same processes that are in use on the human side,
including a quality control system that exceeds the standards demanded by
international markets. The end result is not only human grade and safe food for
pets, but it is also fit and safe for human consumption.
Quality control
standards are implemented, which include keeping the factory in such a condition
where it can pass around twenty annual inspections performed by international
agencies and third party auditors, all under the scrutiny of human consumption
standards. Such inspections include abiding by Good Manufacturing Processes
(GMP). Regulations and Hazard Standards and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
systems, meeting the demands promulgated by the United States, the European
Union, Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan. Under the strict British Retail
Consortium (BRC) Global Standard, the factory earned an A-Grade European Food
Safety Inspection Services (EFSIS) certificate. Other certificates of
accreditation include ISO (International Organization for Standardization),
HALAL and Orthodox Kosher. FDA and USDA perform internal audits of the factory
every other month. Such inspections include but are not limited to
examination of pest control, food safety, heavy metal and histamine testing.
Environmental control audits include detailed assurances that all work stations
are cleaned every four hours and that each employee’s hygiene meets the
requisite standards. Similar audits are applied to all suppliers including an
inspection of every incoming raw material shipment. Finally, during this entire
process, the factory operates according to a Social Accountability International
Management System (SAI), SA8000, as per the Ethical Trading Initiative. Designed
for independent third party certification, SA8000 is promoted as a voluntary,
universal standard for companies interested in auditing and certifying labor
practices in their facilities and those of their suppliers and vendors.
After we had
learned all this we figured that was almost enough to make our choice pro Weruva.
Though we still wanted to make sure that when the food arrives here it is being
well received by our pets. That is why Weruva employs an experienced taste
testing team, which will make sure that nothing passes by them without their
approval. We had the pleasure to meet the team and are pleased to introduce to
you:
