Animal Food Services
(AFS): Welcome to the magic of meat. AFS is committed to nutritional excellence since 1975.
AFS,
since 1975 setting and maintaining the standards of excellence, produces
natural, health improving pet food formulas. The ultimate and healthiest diet
foundation as nature intended all along utilizing tasty life giving freshly
ground organ meats and meaty bones. AFS meals are made without artificial
flavors or colors, fillers, rendered ingredients and gluten. They contain no
preservatives of any kind and are preserved by freezing and freeze drying. They
are balanced and complete in vitamin,
mineral, fat and carbohydrate. They are protein content-balancing and they have
the all-important calcium/phosphorous ratio.
An unhealthy pet can often become an abused or
abandoned pet… when the core of the problem is most often the result of
what’s in, or not in, the pet’s food dish. Natural nutrition is
smart and AFS makes it easy. AFS is the diet your dog’s genetic machinery
knows how to digest. A dog is not what it eats… but what it can digest.
It’s what stays inside what counts. Try any AFS product for 30 days. Then
you will surely see the very real difference between pet foods.
In
addition to frozen foods, AFS offers the same formulas and sizes in a like
freeze-dried product (only the moisture is removed).
This innovative method of preserving meat is perfect for pet owners on the go!
Those who travel with their pets, for long or quick trips can pack along AFS
freeze-dried products without any worry about keeping the food cold, as
freeze-dried products DO NOT need refrigeration!
They store well in the kitchen cupboard and/or in the trunk of a car. Backpackers,
campers, mushers, trainers, etc. love the convenience
for travel and as training rewards! When there is limited space in your
freezer, or you don't like handling ground raw meat, our freeze-dried products
provide a pleasant and convenient option! Storage is convenient and the product
weighs only one third as much as the frozen product! Just add water (6
ounces per patty) and in a few minutes your pet will enjoy the tasty nutrition
of a true meat product.
AFS' freeze-drying process protects the product's nutritional integrity by
removing the moisture while remaining frozen.
Other forms of drying and baking may be less expensive, but the extreme heat
reached during those other manufacturing methods damage many of the vital
nutrients.

Freeze-drying
is a process that removes the moisture from the meat in a vacuum chamber, while
still frozen. By bringing the temperature to the triple point 32 degrees
F (where moisture can exist as an ice crystal, water or gas), the moisture is evacuated
from an ice crystal to a gas without entering the liquid stage. The
minimum amount of added heat to accomplish this is insufficient to destroy the
amino acids or digestive enzymes. Freeze-drying, though considerably higher in
cost, is the only way to preserve meat without chemicals, irradiation, or heat
damage to nutrition. It is yet another example of AFS’ commitment
to nutritional excellence.
When special conditions of vacuum and temperature are
applied to a frozen Pet Patty, only the moisture escapes. The result is a
freeze dried Pet Patty, which is much lighter in weight than the original
frozen patty. The only difference now between the frozen and freeze-dried
state is the lower moisture content of the freeze-dried patty. The
quantity (weight) of every ingredient other than moisture remains the same in
the freeze-dried, as it was in the original frozen patty.
Take
a look at the diagram below and you can see why the percent of each ingredient
must change when the moisture is removed. The protein, fat and
carbohydrate quantity stays the same in each... but since the Freeze-Dried
patty has very little moisture weight the percent of each ingredient differs
between the two forms. The weight (amount) of each nutrient does not
change, only the moisture quantity has changed and that changes the percentages
of the ingredients.

Note:
The natural prey (deer, rabbits, birds, rodents, etc.) of carnivores, if
analyzed for protein, fat, carbohydrate, minerals and water, would compare very
closely to the ingredient content of AFS frozen diets.
AFS
Freeze-Dried meat products have the same nutrient composition as the frozen
patties except that most of the moisture (not the nutritional elements) has
been removed. Plus, again closely comparing to a meat eater's natural
diet, AFS meat products have essentially the same high digestibility as natural
prey. And, AFS meat products have no artificial colors
nor chemical preservatives added... just like Nature! Free ranging
carnivores do not cook their meat prior to consuming... and neither does
AFS! Your pet now has the advantage of consuming a scientifically devised
meat product that takes its directions from Nature. Help your pet to get close
to Nature; feed AFS meat based diets and you will see the difference real meat
makes... Naturally!

1 Pattie = ½ lbs. (1 cup) of real raw meat
|
As
a general rule: Feed 2% of the dog's body weight per day.
Growing
puppies and pregnant or nursing dogs may require as much as 3%-4% of body
weight per day during early growth and high performance months.
Remember, you can feed more or less of the diet in order to keep your dog at
its optimum weight.
Simply
remove patty from package, place in a dish whole or crumbled. Serve dry, or
reconstitute by adding 1/4 cup to 2/3 cup of water to a large 1/2 lb. pet
patty; or approx. 2 oz. water to a mini pet patty. Let soak for 10-25 minutes.
For
faster re-hydration, crumble first and/or use warm water (Note: Hot water will
destroy the live enzymes we work so hard to protect).
If meat mixture is to be added to dry food, use one cup of water for additional
gravy.
After re-hydrating, please refrigerate any uneaten portion; or discard if left
sitting out for more than one hour.
On a strict budget?
We
understand that not all households can afford feeding natural and nutritionally
complete real raw meat diets exclusively. Therefore, as our primary concern is
the health of the animal, we would like to suggest a combination diet--at least
50% AFS diet, along with another product of your careful choosing, fed each
day.
For mixing a large AFS pet patty with your selected premium dry diet, use a
single 1/2 lb. AFS pet patty, and 2 cups dry kibble for each 50 lbs. of animal
weight (add 1 cup water, if using an AFS freeze-dried pet patty). Adjust
amounts upward (to twice the amount) for expected growth, work and
reproduction.
A partial feeding of AFS real meat diets will provide vital nutrients that the
animal would not otherwise have consumed. Thereby it is improving its health to
even a small degree (feeding as a supplement) will provide your pet with a
higher degree of health and comfort to the level of your choosing.

Safe Handling instructions
Commercially made properly prepared raw meat based
pet food diets have an excellent safety record. At Lizzy’s
Healthy Pet Food, we take pet food safety very seriously. Our top priority is
ensuring the integrity of our products and the trust of our customers. We pride
ourselves on the quality and safety of our products, and our suppliers meet or
exceed all industry and government standards in the production of our products.
Because of our constant commitment to safety, Lizzy’s Healthy Pet
Food’s suppliers have in place sophisticated food-handling systems that
are among the best in the industry. Proper procedures when handling pet food
will ensure the enjoyment of your products from Lizzy’s Healthy Pet Food.
Here are some things to keep in mind: Always thaw your products in the
refrigerator. Never thaw products at room temperature. Pet food products will
not last indefinitely in the freezer or refrigerator. Always plan to use your
pet foods from Lizzy’s Healthy Pet Food in a reasonable amount of time. Do
not use the same cutting board or platter for raw meats and cooked meats.
Always wash hands, utensils, cutting boards and counters that contact raw food
with hot, soapy water. Always refrigerate leftovers immediately or discard.
Frozen products need to be kept in a freezer to
preserve product freshness. Defrosting AFS raw
meat diets should always be done slowly in the refrigerator. Remove the
plastic wrapper from the frozen roll, place in a covered container and place in
refrigerator. Each day the outer layer of meat will be thawed enough for
feeding. Another technique: Place 5-pound roll in refrigerator
overnight, then cut with large or electric knife into desired daily portions
for individual defrosting. Wrap and replace unused cut portions in the
freezer immediately.
Freeze
dried products: Simply remove patty from package, place in a dish whole or crumbled.
Serve dry, or reconstitute by adding 1/4 cup to 2/3 cup of water to a large 1/2
lb. pet patty; or approx. 2 oz. water to a mini pet patty. Let soak for 10-25
minutes. For faster re-hydration, crumble first and/or use warm water (Note: Hot
water will destroy the live enzymes we work so hard to protect).
If meat mixture is to be added to dry food, use one cup of water for additional
gravy. After re-hydrating, please refrigerate any uneaten portion; or discard
if left sitting out for more than one hour.

AFS
production of fresh-frozen raw meat diets began in 1991, founded by Gerry Nash.
Nash began formulating fresh meat diets back in the early 1970's, and
introduced his perfected diets in 1975, selling to zoos, circuses and greyhound
racing dogs.
Extensive
experiments, testing, detailed analyses and favorable trials laid the
groundwork for the great success AFS is experiencing today! The main goal
of this company has always been to create and distribute the most natural and
nutritionally sound meat diets possible--for our true "carnivorous"
animals.
Realizing
how beneficial their products were to the commercial industry, AFS broadened
its marketing approach toward the general public. The tremendous
responses gained from domestic pet owners, breeders, veterinarians, etc. has
supported this company's view that a market niche is eminent for fresh frozen
and freeze-dried, meat-based animal diets.
This
company continues to supply the most nutritionally sound animal foods available
for a reasonable price! AFS diets are composed primarily of beef and meat
by-products (internal organ meats such as hearts, livers, kidneys, tripe, etc.)
all naturally nutritious ingredients. All ingredients originate only from
animals slaughtered in USDA regulated and inspected meat packing plants.
These ingredients are handled with the utmost of care to ensure superior
quality in every pound of AFS fresh-frozen meat diets. Though not
considered or commonly used as human food, the ingredients in AFS fresh-frozen
meat diets have been commonly accepted as the healthiest of products by leading
professionals within the animal care industry!
In
fact, the AFS philosophy regarding proper feeding of carnivores
is contrary to the mainstream of the pet food community. Commercial
pet food companies spend millions of dollars promoting the feeding of
carnivores (dogs and cats) a cereal-based product more suited to feeding
"omnivores" (i.e., human beings, pigs, raccoons, etc.). It's
fascinating how cereal-based commercial pet foods are almost always
artificially colored to create a "meat like" appearance.
The
AFS fresh-frozen meat concept has proven itself again and again as more and
more animals (under human care) become healthier, stronger and experience a
longer life! What's also exciting is the ever growing number of dealers
and distributors who continue to provide AFS with remarkable testimonials from
their customers!
After
understanding more about, who AFS is and the products they provide,
aren't you glad you now have the opportunity to take a more serious step toward
improving the long term health of your own beloved animals?
